Isabella Products, Inc. launched Fable, its cloud-based mobile learning device exclusively for children. A durable, browser-free tablet, Fable combines the freedom to explore, learn and play, with the security of private sharing. Designed and manufactured in Massachusetts, Fable uniquely engages children and lets parents and teachers customize a learning experience without fear of accidental access to the Internet. With Fable, digital content is selected from an exclusive collection of handpicked books, apps, games, videos and projects, for creating and sharing. The launch follows research and development from successful elementary and after school pilot programs in several communities in Massachusetts and New York.
“We saw a need in the marketplace for an affordable children's tablet that would encourage and enhance learning in a highly managed and safe environment,” said Isabella's Founder and CEO, Matthew I. Growney. “Fable was designed to give children access to a tool that would immerse them in a multitude of learning experiences.”
Fable's clean design and carousel navigation make it easy to inspire young children to discover, read stories, play games, watch videos, take pictures, draw and work on custom projects that they can safely share with designated friends, family, classmates, and teachers. Digital content is free of in-app purchases, advertising or any inappropriate material from the Internet. Fully managed and monitored by parents and teachers, Fable connects to the cloud at a password-protected site, VizitMe.com. Each tablet is tailored to a child's unique interests and abilities with content carefully curated from a range of premier publishers and app developers, includingToca Boca, Farfaria, DADA Company, Barefoot Books, and Crave Creative.
Fable's retail expansion follows pilot programs in several school districts and non-profits in the Greater Boston, Mass. area and New York City. Through these programs, teachers are able to: set up a classroom with student profiles, provide a safe way for interactions and exploration of educational content, and develop personalized lesson plans for individual students. Isabella Products, Inc. will continue to offer Fable pilot programs to additional schools in the U.S. and abroad throughout the next year.
Furnell McGrath, a second grade teacher in Everett, Mass. who piloted Fable in her classroom, said students of all skill levels were able to easily navigate the device and showed great enthusiasm while learning.
“I had students watch educational videos and complete an engineering design process on Fable during a science unit and used the devices for reading lessons to practice fluency through worksheets and games,” said McGrath. “Having this technology in the classroom was exceptionally motivating. Students were keenly interested and focused on the projects at hand. Fable offers an opportunity to explore subject matter in new and exciting ways.”
In the hands of children, Fable is sleek yet durable enough to withstand being dropped and will survive the inevitable juice spills. The custom tablet is built on an Android operating system with a 7-inch LCD capacitive dual-touch display and offers 8 GB of internal memory and a 3-megapixel camera. At launch, Fable is available in three colors: orchid, blue and black, with additional colors this summer. Isabella will also offer accessories including: stylish headphones, a protective bubble case, and a screen protector for use with Fable.
Fable is available for purchase online at VizitMe.com and in select retailers including Walmart, InMotion Entertainment, Sears and Kmart, beginning in May 2015. The tablet's retail price is $129.99 and is discounted to $99.99 for schools. For more information, visit: VizitMe.com/AboutFable, facebook.com/FableKids, or twitter.com/FableKids.
