Unless you're a child—or some kind of god—I’m guessing at least a cup of coffee is part of your daily routine. For me, coffee time is the most sacred twelve times of the day, and there are enough people who agree with me for caffeine withdrawal to be classified as a mental disorder. But you know what they say about too much of a good thing. Drinking too much coffee could lead to sleep or anxiety disorders, which is why Jawbone has come up with UP Coffee.
Jawbone’s new mobile app keeps track of how much caffeine is in your system at the moment. When you pick up a caffeinated beverage, tell UP Coffee, and it will add a droplet to the flask. The more the flask fills up, the higher the app’s analog needle creeps to the ‘Edgy’ zone, which is where you need to put. The coffee cup. Down .
Have some self-control, shesh.
The app will keep track of the level of caffeine in your system, so it will be able to tell if you’ll be too wound up for bed. And while you don’t need a Jawbone wrist tracker to use it, UP Coffee is compatible with their main UP app, meaning it could also keep track of the data over time and let you know if your caffeine intake is interfering with your sleep patterns.
As befitting a Jawbone product, the app tries to use data to help users make more informed decisions about their lives and choices—UP Coffee also gives out useful tips and facts about caffeine people might not be aware of, like the fact that decaffeinated coffee actually still has caffeine in it. The company has also released an updated version of their main UP app, and plans to update the Android version at a later time.
By the way, I just downloaded the app—based on my current level of caffeine, UP Coffee estimates that I’ll be able to go to bed sometime around 4am.
