Founder and CEO of Isabella Products, Matthew Growney saw a need in the marketplace for an affordable children’s tablet. As a father of three, he had a vision to introduce youngsters to a learning tool that would enhance exploration, teaching, and customized learning. Within two and a half years, the creation of Fable, the ultimate children’s tablet, became a reality.
Breathing life into an idea
With an interest in deeply understanding the marketplace for consumer technologies, and as an investor and entrepreneur himself, Growney founded Isabella Products to address the opportunity for connecting all things unconnected. He was set on creating the best possible educational learning toy, along with the ability to improve learning at home and in the classroom. “While there are a variety of educational learning toys or mass market tablets, none have taken on the challenge of creating a device and service experience that marry a safe and secure mobile Internet connection with carefully curated world-class children’s content,” Growney said of Fable.
Prior to creating the tablet, Growney was a co-founder and managing director of Motorola Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Motorola, Inc., where he co-managed a portfolio of technology investments globally. He also served on the board of several non-for-profit organizations focused on education. By combining two of his passions, Growney created Fable to help children become smarter in a controlled environment, responding to their individual interests and needs.
Fable is tons of fun and totally secure
Fable comes pre-loaded with a variety of books, games, videos, and projects. It offers educational and entertainment titles through the VizitMe store, which is curated from premier children’s publishers, individual authors, and engaging game and application developers from across the world. Fable’s collection of titles are selected by a content curation committee made up of parents, educators, and content developers who help maintain the range of content to ensure each Fable can be tailored to a child’s age, abilities, and unique interests.
Designed without a browser, the device is designed to keep children away from inappropriate content, or from accidentally making a purchase. Fable is managed and monitored by a parent, teacher, or other adult guardian. At VizitMe.com, Fable’s cloud-based content management platform, parents and teachers use a password-protected account to select and purchase books, games, and videos, or customized academic pages. The sharing feature allows adults to designate friends, family, teachers, and classmates for children to share content such as family vacation photos, drawings, or personal projects.
A children’s tablet designed to last — it even conquers juice spills
Unlike other tablets, Fable was designed to withstand being in the hands of little ones. It can take on juice spills and tumbles to the ground — drop tests with toddlers and elementary-aged children were done before the tablet hit the market.
Fable is currently $129.99 at retail and discounted at $99 for schools. It’s built on an Android operating system with a 7-inch LCD capacitive dual-touch display, and offers 8 GB of internal memory, along with a 3-megapixel camera.
“We are excited to introduce children, families, and classrooms to a learning tool that promises to significantly enhance exploration, teaching, and customized learning,” Growney said.
