Larson shines bright blue EPL-TN-FKLT-BLUE LED explosion proof warning light in hazardous areas

25-W blue LED warning light provides safety in work areas

The EPL-TN-FKLT-BLUE, a 25-W blue forklift LED warning spotlight from Larson Electronics, expands safety measures in a hazardous work area by actively providing early notifications for nearby workers and pedestrians.

The EPL-TN-FKLT-BLUE blue LED forklift safety light is an explosion-proof light that produces 2,250 lm of blue light while drawing only 2.09 A from a 12-V electrical system. This LED spotlight mounts on the front and back of a forklift or other heavy machinery to warn pedestrians and bystanders when they are in the path of an oncoming forklift. Five 5-W blue LEDs producing 450 lm each are combined with parabolic reflectors to produce a five-degree spread spot beam, providing a high-−intensity center beam that is visible at night and during the day.

The LED warning light can operate in temperatures ranging between −40°C and 80°C. It is also waterproof (up to 1 m) and resistant to the ingress of dust, dirt, and humidity. The housing is formed from extruded aluminum and the lens is constructed of unbreakable polycarbonate. The light is enclosed in a Class 1 Division 1 casing constructed of copper-free aluminum with a thermoset powder coat finish. The lens on the casing is constructed of ¾-in. thermal shock- and impact-resistant tempered glass. This LED safety light is permanently mounted with a yolk-type mounting bracket with a single through hole.

These LED units contain advanced drivers which use PWM to control heat buildup rather than simple voltage regulators, which are typically harsh on sensitive electronics and can contribute to early LED failure. The units automatically sense the temperature of each LED and adjust the energy frequency or duty cycle accordingly to maintain acceptable heat levels. The system flashes current at an extremely fast on-off rate to each LED based upon the LED’s core temperature. This flash rate is too fast to detect with the human eye but provides precise control of the current flowing to each LED and, thus, the heat it generates. This allows the LEDs to be driven at up to 100% capacity without overheating or visible loss of light output. The LEDs are always driven at the same voltage but the duty cycle, however, is changed to alter how long the LEDs are actually on or off. The end result is more light with less heat and longer LED life with an average 70% lumen maintenance after 50,000 hours.
