LCD chipset improves display
performance in mobile phones
Controller driver and gate driver enhance contrast, color, and battery life
Suited for driving amorphous silicon active-matrix LCD panels in mobile phones, the FPD94128 controller/column driver and FPD93140 power supply/gate driver combine low power and advanced interface design to enhance color and contrast, as well as extend battery life. The chipset features an image-dependent backlight controller to reduce backlight intensity, which translates to longer phone usage time between charges.
The FPD94128 features an internal frame buffer, a display refresh controller, a programmable gamma reference, a backlight intensity modulator, and a 528-channel 64-gray-level column driver. It also provides a quiescent power of 2.5 mW and programmable color depth that allows selection of 3-, 9-, 12-, or 18-bit color modes.
In addition the FPD93140 integrates a 241-channel row drive, a charge pump, and a VCOM driver. Specifications include an input from 2.85 to 5.5 V, a quiescent current of 100 A, and an efficiency of 80%.
The chipset is programmable to support up to 176 x 240 pixels and has a versatile video interface, accepting data in 18-bit RGB or 8-bit or 16-bit 4:2:2 Y`CbCr. ($9.99 ea/1,000available now.)
