LDO regulator ICs reduce noise by 40%

Rohm’s BUxxJA3DG-C LDO regulator ICs support output currents up to 300 mA while covering an input voltage range from 1.7 V to 6 V.

Rohm Semiconductor has introduced the BUxxJA3DG-C series of automotive-grade LDO regulator ICs. Based on their simple circuit configuration and low noise, they target automotive applications such as ADAS sensors, cameras and radar, and vehicle infotainment systems.

Automotive safety requirements are increasingly demanding power supply ICs that deliver larger currents in a smaller package size. The LDO regulator ICs meet basic requirements for automotive secondary power supply LDOs including compact size and compatibility with standard output voltage.

Although compact (2.9 × 2.8 mm), they support output currents up to 300 mA and cover an input voltage range from 1.7 V to 6 V. The low input supply voltage enables the LDOs use in 1.8-V power supply systems to provide low output voltages at a higher efficiency

The series provides a low-noise power supply, as output voltage noise is reduced to 55 μVrms, approximately 40% lower than competing 3.3-V LDO regulators, according to Rohm. The BU12JA3DG-C offers the lowest output voltage for operation stability even at 1.7-V input/300-mA output, enabling its use in 1.8-V power supply systems. Here too, output noise is reduced by 40% over general products, reducing the effect on electrical signals, said the company.

The BUxxJA3DG-C series meets basic requirements, including compact size, support for 125°C operation, qualification under the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard, as well as the output voltages required for automotive secondary LDO regulators.

Priced at $1.00/unit for samples, the BU12JA3DG-CTR, BU18JA3DG-CTR, BU25JA3DG-CTR, BU33JA3DG-CTR are available for purchase through online distributors Digi-Key, Mouser, and Farnell, while the BU15JA3DG and BU30JA3DG-C are under development.
