The internet is saturated with sites that will teach the new coder how to turn their hobby in to an employable skill. From Coursera to Codeacademy, the options are not only plentiful, they’re pretty decent too.
But for all the text-based lessons out there, a good majority of people do better, or at least, they find it a bit more insightful, to see the actual practice demonstrated in real time. After all, that’s what makes how-to and DIY videos so popular on YouTube.
A new site is hoping to become the future source of interactive learning for today’s aspiring coder. It’s called Livecoding.tv and it’s exactly as described: a site that allows developers to live stream their work as they’re actively writing code for it. Viewers who log-in can learn from watching these experts apply their skills to the creation of a website, mobile app, and other online systems.
“We are not focused on teaching basics of coding but rather production level coding,” reads the blog post announcing the project. “Livecoding.tv blends education with entertainment, socializing and killing time/boredom to combine into something we hope will be pretty great.”
What’s more, people watching the stream can ask questions while the coder is working.
There are three levels available: beginner, intermediate, and expert. There are also multiple languages available, including Python, Javascript, HTML/CSS, and more.
If you fall under the category of “professional coder” and want to exhibit your work in real time, go here.
If you’re an aspiring coder and want to check out some of the channels to see what the site is all about, head here.
