LED controller targets 150-W lighting apps

Targeting residential and commercial applications, the 88EM8081 and 88EM8080 LED controllers can be used for a wide variety of solid-state lighting applications with output power ranges up to 150 W. The controllers’ architecture includes an optimized DSP core to add new, unique features, and single-stage power factor correction , which enables manufacturers to use fewer external components. In addition the parts offer adaptive control-loop design to achieve a power factor up to 0.99 and a lower level of THD for easier worldwide regulatory compliance, including Energy Star.

Both devices work at fixed frequencies the 88EM8080 at 60 kHz and the 88EM8081 at 120 kHz. Additional features include up to 2-A driver capability, up to a 16-V supply voltage, built-in undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown, Housed in an 8-pin SOIC package, the IC operates under continuous-conduction mode or discontinuous-conduction mode or both combined together operating in mixed mode.
