Suited for general-purpose LCD panel backlighting applications, the 6-W CAT4106 LED driver integrates a high-power dc/dc boost converter in 16-lead TQFN and 16-lead TSSOP packages. The device drives as many as 40 white LEDs — or four strings of 10 LEDs with up to 36 V per string — for a total of 6 W of LED output power.
The part has built-in diagnostics functions, which automatically adjust the output voltage to drive the highest forward-voltage string with the minimum headroom voltage. It also features low-dropout LED channels of 500 mV at 175 mA and a high-frequency PWM interface, which supports multiple frequencies up to 2 kHz. ($1.06 ea/10,000 — prod qty 6 to 8 weeks ARO.)
