Providing dimming capabilities to improve the energy efficiency of LED lighting, the SSL2101 dimmable mains LED driver can operate directly from a rectified mains power supply in combination with a phase-cut dimmer (no external startup circuit is required). The part integrates two high-voltage switches for bleeder operation and an input that can be used to sense lamp power usage and activate additional bleeder action.
The device has in-built circuitry to reduce capacitive switch-on losses and optimize valley-switching efficiencies and uses on-time mode and frequency control to govern the LED brightness. Features include overtemperature protection, short-winding protection, and overcurrent protection. Housed in a SO16 package, the part operates from 8.5 to 40 V. ($1.50 — available now.)
