LED driver slashes dropout voltage by 20%

Part reduces power dissipation and extends battery life

Targeting LED indicators and LCD or keyboard backlighting in entry-level mobile products, the AHK3292 two-channel LED driver with low-resistance current sinks can support a low-dropout voltage of 36 mV — claimed to be 20% lower than competitive products. This 1X driver operates directly off a 2.7 to 5.5-V input supply and can drive one or two LEDs at up to 30.2 mA each.

Additional features include an output current accuracy of ±10%, an output current matching of ±3%, and a low current shutdown mode. The output current for each LED is enabled, disabled and controlled by the company’s Simple Serial Control (S2Cwire) interface, further reducing flicker and noise. Housed in a Pb-free 6-pin SOT23 package, the part operates over –40° to 85°C. ($0.39 ea/1,000 — available now.)
