LED driver targets notebook displays

The LX1996 LED driver is designed to drive up to six strings of white LEDs that are used in midsized displays found in notebooks and monitors, entertainment systems, and automotive applications. The driver provides ±0.5% current matching and is suited for systems having input voltage ranging from 6.0 to 28 V and LED strings of up to 10 LEDs at 30 mA per string.

Features include a direct ambient light sensor interface for brightness control, multimode dimming options using PWM, and/or analog signals that can deliver up to a 25,000:1 dimming ratio, ultrasonic pulse skipping for audible noise reduction, and safety protection including on-chip thermal shutdown, overvoltage protection, and opened and shorted LED protection. Housed in a 24-pin MLPQ package, the LX1996 also features panel temperature compensation of LED current to help extend lamp longevity. ($0.75 ea/10,000 — available now.)
