LED drivers ‘light up’ battery-operated devices

Members of the ZLED family of LED control solutions, the ZLED7012/22 LED driver ICs feature low-noise, constant-frequency charge pump dc/dc converters that can efficiently drive up to four (‘12) or six (‘22) strings of LEDs. Suitable for small, battery-powered LED-backlighting applications, both feature special low-EMI inductorless design technology to eliminate back-injected noise.

Pulse-count-control serial digital input lets designers enable and disable LEDs and set the current level. The programmable current levels range from 1.8 to 20 mA per LED channel. Housed in UTQFN packages, the ICs also feature an operating voltage from 2.8 to 5.5 Vdc, soft-start circuitry, and a shutdown mode that reduces quiescent current to approximately 1 µA. The devices require only three external components. (ZLED7012, 0.32 euros; ZLED7022, 0.39 euros — prod qty available now.)
