LED drivers make lighting design easy and fast

The 450-mA, 14-W TPS92550 and 23-W, 450-mA TPS92551 dc/dc LED driver modules are claimed the first to incorporate all the required power and passive circuitry into a single IC package — further eliminating the external components and complex layout placement challenges typical of LED driver designs. The parts are constant current buck LED driver modules that virtually eliminate the need for power supply design resources and simplify procurement, with just one module replacing four or more components.

The TPS92550 offers an input voltage range from 4.5 to 36 V, a constant switching frequency at 400 kHz, up to 96% efficiency, and can drive up to 10 LEDs in series at 36 V. The TPS92551 operates from 4.5 to 60 V, has a switching frequency at 800 kHz, offers up to 95% efficiency, and drives up to 16 LEDs in series at 60 V input.

Offered in a 7-pin TO-PMOD package, the parts features LED open and short circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and an operating junction temperature from –40° to 125°C. (ea/1,000; TPS92550, $5.00; TPS92551 $5.50 — available now)
