Designed for use in high-power commercial and consumer projectors, the OSTAR Compact 2×2 LED set is said to be the brightest LED system of its type on the projector market. With twice the brightness in all colors (red, converted green, and blue) and near record-breaking green values, the LED set makes it possible to obtain 400-lm flux from a projector.
The LED set is designed specifically for imager diagonals between 0.4 and 0.55 in. But combining multiple sets allows larger imager diagonals, producing the high brightness needed for office projectors.
Each LED package contains two 2-mm2 chips and has overall dimensions of 5.8 x 4.6 mm. Output is 85 lm / mm2 of footprint, measured in pulse mode for green at an operating current of 6 A (typical luminous flux of 2,400 lm). This increased output is based on two integrated blue chips using ThinGaN technology and a green phosphor converter. Since the green LED is the critical element in producing white light in projectors, the increase in its brightness has a significant effect on overall system brightness.
