LEDs use ceramics to handle heat

Using a ceramic substrate with an integrated cast epoxy lens, the KoolBrite family of SMT LEDs can withstand wave soldering, a solder dip of up to 260C for 10 s, and spot temperatures as high as 320C for up to 5 s.

Available in colors including amber, yellow, red, blue, and green with a viewing angle of 180°, the RoHS-compliant devices are available in a single-emitter configuration delivering up to 70 mcd at 20 mA and dual-emitter packages providing up to 12 mcd per chip at 20 mA.
