The Remote Skylight from James Ramsey’s Keynote at Lightfair trade show April 2013

The first keynote speaker is James Ramsey, the inventor of the Remote Skylight and founder of RAADStuff. The principal of RAAD and creator of the Lowline, an underground garden, he will discuss how innovative lighting can produce startling design ideas and allow us to reconnect to the present. The Lowline is RAAD's concept for the creation of an underground garden in New York City. He will discuss some of the context and challenges of this bold and ambitious project.
The second keynote is presented by Vinod Khosla, one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems, and currently a co-founder of Khosla Ventures. He will present a cleantech investor’s perspective on how innovative approaches to lighting will transform this industry into potentially one of the most high-tech, creative, and impactful sectors of the economy. What the lighting industry can achieve is a function of what it thinks it can achieve — not any other physical limitation.

The conference features six pavilions that showcase product-specific manufacturers. This year exterior and roadway lighting is introduced as a pavilion and as a conference track. The debut of Hall F illuminates the future of new lighting technologies including solar and software categories that complement the LFI product mix. These are the latest solutions and technological advances integral to the lighting industry’s reach into energy efficiencies and control innovations. The conference offers 200+ hours of world-class accredited education, which range from 90-minute to 2-day immersion sessions at every level, from beginnner to advanced.
