By Alex Pluemer, contributing writer

Panasonic Industrial Devices Sales Company of America recently expanded its family of pin-type lithium-ion batteries with the introduction of the CG-425A small cylindrically shaped battery. Delivering high reliability and rapid charging, the new lithium-ion battery weighs approximately 1 g (without tabs) with a diameter of 4.7 mm and a height of 25 mm maximum, making it suitable for slim pen-shaped or spherical-shaped products.

The next generation of wearable devices will require smaller, lighter, and longer-lasting batteries that can be recharged quickly. The CG-425A meets all those criteria while providing a nominal voltage of 3.8 V, a charge voltage of 4.35 A, and a typical capacity of 32.0 mAh. Target applications include wireless devices such as hearing aids, smart drug delivery systems (i.e. insulin pens, inhalers), wireless earbuds, and specialty eyewear.
