TVS diode arrays are ideal for protecting the I/O interfaces and digital and analog signal lines in computers and portable consumer electronics from voltage transients, such as lightning and electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD poses a serious threat to electronics and is commonly caused when friction between two dissimilar materials creates an electric charge buildup on their surfaces. Unfortunately, the human skin is often one of these two materials and it is not uncommon for the resulting static charge to reach as high as 15,000 volts.
Littelfuse offers a wide assortment of TVS arrays that provide a high level of protection with very low capacitance, leaking current and clamp voltage. In particular, Littelfuse’s SP1012 miniature, five-channel, bidirectional TVS diode array is extremely broad in scope, offering general-purpose ESD protection for wearable technology, smart phones, mobile phones, touchscreen controllers, SIM card interfaces, and more. The bidirectional configuration provides symmetrical ESD protection for data lines when AC signals are present and packs five ESD diodes in a 0402-size flipchip package that would normally contain only one, so it offers a 5x improvement over previous implementations.
