Offered as an industry first, the CC2431 location detection SoC for ZigBee wireless sensor networking is based on the CC2430, the industry’s first SoC ZigBee solution for low-power RF applications. Supported by Z-Stack protocol software and by the CC243ZDK ZigBee 2006 development kit, both chips combine the performance of the CC2420 RF transceiver core with an enhanced 8051 microcontroller, up to 128 Kbytes of flash memory, 8 Kbytes of RAM, and many additional features, all in a 7 x 7-mm QLP-48 package.
The CC2431’s RSSI-based location engine accurately calculates the node’s position based on the receive signal strength from CC2430-based reference nodes with known locations and can then send that information to a collector, such as computer, PDA, or handset. (CC2431, $6.45 ea/1,000—available now.)
