Logitech’s new camera takes hyper lapses of your home

This device is more than just a home security camera.

Logitech’s new home monitoring portable camera, the Circle, allows users to stream video from anywhere in the household for up to three hours.

This device is more than just a security camera — you can also use it like a webcam, as it has support for two-way voice chat. Logi Circle is also knocking its competitors out of the water by including 24-hours worth of video rewinding saved in its cache from the cloud service.

The Circle lets you stream clear, HD video from the camera to your smartphone, and works on both iOS and Android when connected to Wi-Fi. The app is simple to use: there’s a play / pause button at the bottom, a vertical timeline on the right, and a two-way talk feature, which lets you speak through the camera and hear what's going on. When there’s movement, the camera will send you push notifications.

On the software side, the camera is equipped with motion detection and night vision, is capable of shooting 1080p, and filters the notifications and video highlights with what Logitech calls “scene intuition” technology. This means that instead of getting a notification every time a stray breeze ruffles a leaf on your living room plant, the Circle will learn to sort the harmless, frequently occurring types of movement in your home from those out of the ordinary.

What makes the small device so unique is a feature known as “Day Brief,” which is a supercut of the day's most important activity. The app takes these clips and algorithmically produces a 30-second sped up video in the form of a hyper lapse.

Available for $199 and expected to ship in October 2015, you can purchase Logitech’s Circle here.
