Low-cost digital isolators handle 5 kV

The Si866xxx family of six-channel digital isolators feature dc-to-150-MHz operation at –40° to 125°C. They offer 1.0-, 3.5-, and 5.0-kV isolation and come in narrow- and wide-body SOIC-16 packages. The ICs also offer fail-safe modes of default to high or low output and 10-ns typ propagation delay.

Each of the devices channels has an RF transmitter and RF receiver separated by a semiconductor-based isolation barrier. The ICs operate at 2.5 to 5 V, taking 1.6 mA/channel at 1 Mbits/s. Versions come with inputs on the “A” side, or combinations of both “A” and “B” (bidirectional). (Six-channel 5-kV version, $3.76 ea/10,000 — samples available now.)
