Low-cost motor drives yield 2% speed control

The EC102 and EC103 smart digital TRIAC closed-loop control boards enable motor speed regulation of ±2%. The cards handle 12-A max load, and their control method includes a soft-start optimized for use with universal motors.

The 3.4 x 5.7-in. boards can accept sensor feedback in variable-voltage or variable-frequency types, as set at the factory. Inputs on the EC103 are isolated from the ac power, simplifying the interface to remote equipment. (Ea/1,000: EC102, from $8; EC103, from $10 — 8 to 12 weeks ARO.)
