Low-cost scopes have built-in wave generator

The 60-MHz 2540B-GEN and 100-MHz 2542B-GEN digital storage oscilloscopes have integrated 20- and 40-MHz function/arbitrary waveform generators, respectively. The 2.4-Mpt-storage scopes are priced starting from under $1,200.

The 1-Gsample/s DSOs’ AWGs can generate sine, square, and user-defined arbitrary waveforms created by users with free Comsoft PC software and uploaded to the instrument through its USB port or LAN interface. Other built-in AWG features include frequency sweep, burst mode, and modulation schemes such as AM, FM, FSK, PSK, and PWM. Full front-panel control of the scope/AWG is accessible over a LAN via a Web browser. A free adapter kit is available for each scope registered by July 15.
