Low cost solid-state drives yield 128 Gbytes
The MACH8-MLC solid-state disk drives (SSDs) come in 1.8- and 2.5-in. form factors with 32-, 64-, and 128-Gbyte capacities and feature what is said to be the industry’s lowest cost, making them a viable replacement for hard disk drives. The drives support SATA 2.0 and PATA interfaces with sustained sequential speeds of 90 Mbytes/s read, and 60 Mbytes/s write.
The devices are also said to be the industry’s first multilevel cell (MLC)-based SSDs. The pricing of the rugged drives is expected to decline by 60% by the end of 2009. ($140 to $640 — available now.)
