Low-power 2.5-in. HDD is just 7 mm thick

The thin Scorpio Blue series 2.5-in. hard-disk drive is said to have the lowest power consumption on the market today. The 7-mm thick WD5000LPVT 500-Gbyte version takes 1.4 W in read/write, 0.55 W in idle, and just 0.13 W in standby.

The single-platter 5,400-rpm drive features 400-G operating shock tolerance and comes in 500- and 320-Gbyte capacities. It uses a 3-Gbit/s SATA interface. (WD5000LPVT, $100; WD3200LPVT, $80 available now.)
