Low-power MCUs using Cortex-A8 core target industrial control
The first two devices in the new Sitara family of microcontrollers are the AM3505 and AM3517 Superscalar 500-MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor-based ICs optimized for industrial applications. The ICs take less than 1 W from a 1.2-V core supply while yielding 1,000 Dhrystone MIPS performance.
The chips have 112 Kbytes of ROM and 64 Kbytes of full-speed SRAM along with two external memory interfaces supporting the stacking of a multichip memory. They feature a display interface subsystem with picture-in-picture, color space conversion, rotation and resizing support, a DMA controller, a CAN controller, USB 2.0 high-speed OTG, three I2 C ports, three UARTs, and a 10/100 Ethernet MAC. Operation at –40° to 85°C is optional. The AM3517 includes a 3D graphics accelerator with a universal scalable shader engine. ($21.24 and $24.00 ea./1,000 — samples available now.)
