Low-power MEMS oscillators feature two programmable frequencies

Series provides durability and small size; extends battery life

By Heather Hamilton, contributing writer

Abracon recently unveiled the AMJM/AMJD/AMPM/AMPD series of low-power microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) oscillators. The MEMS are offered in small packages, starting at 1.6 × 1.2 × 0.84 mm.

Despite their size, the series of MEMS oscillators produces an accurate clock that can withstand shock and vibration. Offering high durability, these frequency control devices are well-suited for a variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer applications. These include industrial IoT designs, drones, robotics, and wearables.

Available footprints:

  • 1.6 × 1.2 mm, four-pad
  • 2.0 × 1.6 mm, four-pad
  • 2.5 × 2.0 mm, four-pad
  • 3.2 × 2.5 mm, four-pad

The series offers low power consumption of 1.3 mA, can be factory-configured to any frequency, and provides an optional standby function to enable 12-µA current consumption, which will provide for longer battery life when the clock signal is not in use. The operating temperature range is –40°C to 85°C.

Both the AMJD and AMPD series provide a frequency select pin, which means that you can switch the output frequency between any two frequencies within their range. This makes them suited for applications such as audio and video and wireless charging, which require two programmable frequencies.

The series is available through Abracon’s distribution network .
