Low-profile PPTC suits portable electronics

The PolySwitch line of surface-mount resettable fuses has recently added the 0603-size femto SMDC016F device. Suited for space-constrained portable electronics, the fuse measures 1.6 x 0.8 x 0.5 mm, is rated at 9 V with a hold current of 0.16 A, a maximum fault current rating of 40 A and a maximum resistance of 4.2 Ω.

The device also features low power dissipation and fast time-to-trip (0.10 s at 25°C and 1 A). The EIA-compliant fuse is halogen-free, RoHS compliant and UL and CSA certified. (Contact Tyco for pricing — 10 weeks ARO.)
