The new Mac Pro has 3.5 GHz 4-, 6-, 8- or 12-cores using Xeon processors, dual AMD FirePro GPUs, and fast PCIe-based flash storage. Its cylindrical shape is designed around an innovative unified thermal core and the units aluminum enclosure is just 9.9 inches tall and 6.6 inches in diameter.
DDR3 ECC memory gives the Mac Pro up to 60 Gbyte/s of memory bandwidth for seamlessly editing full-resolution 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background. The computer has six Thunderbolt 2 ports, each with up to 20 Gbits/s bandwidth, along with four USB 3 ports and can run three 4K displays.
A base version with a 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor (Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz), dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs with 2 Gbytes of VRAM each, 12 Gbyte of main memory, and 256 Gbytes of flash storage starts at $2,999. Quad- and hex-core versions are available to order now.
