Man exacts revenge, earns citation when he shoots his malfunctioning computer in a back alley

Frustrated computer owner takes extreme measures to punish malfunctioning device

A Colorado Springs man has exacted a type of revenge on his computer that most of us have only dreamed of doing — when the workstation failed him for the umpteenth time, he picked the computer up, brought it out into a back alley, and shot it eight times.

Shot computer

To most, Lucas Hinch is a hero for performing this mafia-esque form of extreme discipline; to the Colorado Springs police, however, he’s a lawbreaker. Shortly after ending the computer’s life, Hinch was served a citation for discharging a weapon within city limits.

“He got tired of fighting with his computer for the last several months,” Lt. Jeff Strossner said. “He was having technology problems, so he took it out in the back alley and shot it.” Strossner added in a tweet that Hinch “executed” his computer in an alley on the 2200 block of West Colorado Avenue.

The Colorado Springs Gazette, which first reported this story, reported Hinch made the decision to shoot the computer when ctrl+alt+delete, a key combination used to re-boot computers “consistently did not work”.

The penalty for this offense will be up to the judge assigned to the case. According to the police, Hinch was good-natured about the citation, and admitted that he was unaware of the fact that he was breaking the law when he decided to shoot the computer.
