According to the online statistics portal statista.com, marketers are showing little interest in advertising on Twitter. From a recent survey of 500+ marketing professionals, 92% said their company advertises on Facebook, while only 23% utilize Twitter's ad platform.
Statista also found that Twitter's user growth is decreasing at an alarming rate. At its peak within the past three years, Twitter grew by more than 140%. As of Q4 2013, that growth declined to under 40%, despite reaching 241 million active monthly users. When Facebook's growth rate first dropped to the level Twitter is currently at, it already had 900 million users. This apparent downfall in Twitter's growth suggests the service will have a tough time coming close to Facebook's user base.
