Those of you who enjoy the American reality show Shark Tank , in which noted investment specialist vie to support budding entrepreneurs, are in for a treat at the MEMS Industry Group's ninth annual MEMS Executive Congress this Thursday, November 7. From 4:15 to 5:45 p.m in the afternoon at the The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa, CA, the so-called MEMS Elevator Pitch (which is sponsored by MEMS equipment manufacturer Micralyne) will bring together four start-ups to present their brand-new concepts
before a panel of investment pros.
Scott Livingston, chairman and CEO, Livingston Securities LLC, will moderate the investors tasked with reviewing and advising the finalists. The group will include Tammi Smorynski, director of Intel Capital, Elecia White, founder of Logical Elegance, and Matthew Zuck, a partner at Guardian Investment Management. The start-ups coming before the panel will be ISKN, Panorama Synergy, Qeexo, and US Volumetrics.
CEA-Leti start-up ISKN will present iSketchnote, a smart iPad cover that integrates new digitizing technology with the convenience of an ordinary notebook, while Panorama Synergy will unveil an optical sensor for existing micro-cantilever technology that will enable biological and chemical sensing with unprecedented sensitivity.

USVI's MEMS 2.0
Carnegie Mellon University spin-off Qeexo will demonstrate its FingerSense technology-an enhancement to touch interaction that allows screens to 'know' how the finger is being used for input: fingertip, knuckle or nail. FingerSense also supports a passive stylus with an eraser. Wrapping up, US Volumetrics, Inc. (USVI) will showcase its next-generation MEMS, called MEMS 2.0 (M2), which they say is designed to jumpstart the Integrated Microsystems revolution.
