Hirose has expanded its compact coaxial connector family to better support automotive applications with long operational life in harsh environments. The U.FL(K) Series of micro coaxial connectors, measuring 3.0 × 3.1 mm, feature gold-plated contacts for corrosion resistance and high peeling strength using four ground contacts for shock and vibration resistance.
The U.FL(K) Series features a low-profile of 2.5 mm with excellent high-frequency performance, according to Hirose, making them suitable for automotive applications including antennas, camera modules, telematics, and audio, video, and navigation (AVN). T”he ultra-miniature footprint enables automotive designers to miniaturize the design or add more functionality in the same space,” said Hirose.
Other features include a low voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.6 maximum (DC to 8 GHz), an operating temperature range of -40 ℃ to 90 ℃, and a clear tactile click that improves operability and confirms correct mating. The U.FL(K) Series of coaxial connectors is pick & place compatible to simplify the assembly process.
Targeting wireless applications, the U.FL(K) version extends the industry-standard U.FL connector design, invented by Hirose. “With the introduction of the U.FL(K) version, Hirose continues our history of downsizing connectors, while increasing performance and reliability to meet application specific demands,” said Mark Kojak, senior VP of sales and operations for Hirose Electric USA, in a statement.
