Micro-D connectors feature removable crimp contacts

Littelfuse, Inc. has introduced the C&K-brand MDMA-MDMB Micro-D Connector with removable crimp contacts, which allows users to create custom cable harnesses or rework existing cable harnesses. This unique design feature is not currently offered by any other Micro-D connectors on the market, according to the company.

Users can create custom harnesses with a choice of different wire types and sizes for each contact and select harness lengths to precisely meet their requirements.

No soldering or shrink tubing is required, said Littelfuse. The connectors use a high-performance Micropin contact system, which features a “twist pin” spring male contact and tubular socket contact to provide removable crimp-type contacts. This enables easy end-user installation and rework, said the company. (Watch the video for more information.)

By ensuring only the required wires are used, there is a cost reduction for the harness manufacturer. The harness length is flexible and can be chosen to exactly suit the application, saving valuable time and weight for a space mission.”

Designed for high performance and harsh environments, applications for the Micro-D connectors include space equipment, satellite harnesses, launchers and payloads, avionics/military and electrical wiring interconnection systems.

The MDMA and MDMB connectors are compatible with existing Micro-D connectors and wire gauges from AWG24 to AWG28. They are compliant with the ESA/ESCC 3401 specifications and are MIL-83513 compatible.

The MDMA and MDMB Micro-D connectors are available in 9, 15, 21, 25, 31, 37 and 51-pin versions in either nickel or gold plating. Contacts are ordered separately. Sample requests are available through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
