The H8/3834 microcontroller combines the H8 processor core with a
32-Kbyte ROM, 1-Kbyte RAM, and 36-segment x 4-bit common LCD drive,
expandable to 512 segments. At 5.0 V, the chip runs 10 MHz and executes
some instructions in 400 ns. It can operate down to 2.7 V at reduced clock
speed. The chip offers six reduced-power modes, some of which use a
built-in 32.768-kHz oscillator. (ROM version, $9.50 ea/10,000;
one-time-programmable version, $17.50 ea/5,000–available now.) Hitachi
