Minecraft to hit the big screen

Popular block game to be turned into a movie

I have a confession: I am horrible at Minecraft. Horrible at it . I get murdered by creepers approximately every five seconds, and I wish I could say I was being hyperbolic. None of that, however, means that I am not excited by the news that the game creator Markus Persson has finally admitted they’ve been talking to Warner Brothers: meaning, Minecraft will soon be a major motion picture.

Every. Five. Seconds.

Fans of the game have been asking for a film for a long time, and even started a Kickstarter to raise money to create such a thing, one that was only recently shut down by Minecraft’s creator, Mojang (and now we know why). According to BBC the film is in the earliest of stages, the studio having just acquired the rights to Minecraft’s famous blocks, characters, and monsters, which they will use to create a “live action version” of the game.

Minecraft will join a number of other games in the transition to the silver screen, including Halo and World of Warcraft, the latter of which began shooting late this January under the keen directing eye of Duncan Jones. Fans of Minecraft will have to hope their film follows WoW’s path rather than Halo’s, which has been in the works for nine years without a shred of filming ever taking place.

HOW DO YOU BUILD THIS. HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME.

The project will be handled by producer Roy Lee according to Deadline, one of the brilliant men responsible for The Lego Movie , so if nothing else Minecraft fans should at least get a cool theme song out of the film.
