Minor league hockey team treats fans to a mind-blowing 3D light display show

Technology uses rink as backdrop for amazing pregame show

When you consider the fact that not too long ago, crowds at sporting events were entertained by an organist, seeing something like the pregame show the Halifax Mooseheads put on for its fans is – in a word – mind-blowing.

Egg Studios, a video production studio also based in Halifax, put the clip together for the team, which recently advanced to the second round of the Quebec Major Junior League playoffs. The clip, which runs about three and a half minutes, uses the rink as a canvas for painting a picture of the team’s many accomplishments throughout the year.

It’s part 3D display, part lighting trickery, and all together, pure entertainment.

The group’s approach really highlights the potential of 3D mapping display. To put something together this grand in scale, involving so many different forms of media, ranging from video to audio to lighting and more, proves that this technology can really complement the creative mindset.

The group’s approach is something entirely unique to the pre-game shows in the sport, not just at the junior level. As this video continues to go viral, it’s a technique that will likely get picked up by teams of all ranks come next season.

So, without further ado, turn the volume up and enjoy the Halifax Mooseheads pre-game show:
