Mitsubishi Electric Selects Analog Devices’ Sharc Processor for Its Automotive Digital Process Center
DIATONE DA-PX1 Digital Process Center Leverages SHARC’s High Performance Processing Power and Precision to Yield Exceptional Sound Quality
Norwood, MA (12/01/2009) – Analog Devices, Inc. today announced that Mitsubishi Electric has selected ADI’s SHARC processor as the digital signal processing engine within its DIATONE DA-PX1 Digital Process Center, the company’s aftermarket automotive audio amplifier. Leveraging ADI’s 32-bit, floating point SHARC digital signal processor at the heart of the DIATONE DA-PX1, Mitsubishi Electric has pioneered several ‘industry first’ audio processing features that yield remarkable sound quality and advanced acoustic equalization.
Designed for the ‘ultra premium’ automotive audio market, the DA-PX1 Digital Process Center features numerous SHARC-enabled capabilities that ensure a world class listening experience for customers. Leveraging specialized bit-extended algorithms developed by Mitsubishi Electric for use with the DA-PX1, SHARC’s high precision digital signal processing decreases quantization noise through 16-to-24 bit micro resolution, producing remarkable sound clarity. SHARC’s floating point architecture also enabled the ability to implement an adjustable Finite Impulse Response (FIR) graphic equalizer, assuring precise digital filtering and balanced volume control across frequencies.
The performance and precision offered via the SHARC processing platform are critical elements within the DA-PX1, enabling the system to implement specialized algorithms that take advantage of SHARC’s speed and memory architecture to ensure optimal audio fidelity.
One of the innovative features within the DA-PX1 Digital Process Center is its Multi-way Time Alignment technology. Using a specialized algorithm programmed for the on-board SHARC processor, the DA-PX1 dynamically adjusts the signal transmission time to each individual speaker (maximum four speakers) when using two-channel power amplifiers, without disturbing multi-way speakers’ response, assuring end-to-end control over sound wave dynamics in the vehicle cabin.
“Mitsubishi Electric’s DIATONE DA-PX1 Digital Process Center is a stunning example of next-generation audio engineering, highlighting the powerful capabilities that SHARC facilitates for high-end audio applications,” said Mark Gill, DSP Director for Automotive Products, Analog Devices. “SHARC’s floating point processing performance and built-in audio peripherals enable audio engineers to unlock the full power and value of their audio applications, and ensure exquisite sound quality that surpasses the expectations of even the most discerning audiophiles.”
