Modem device set for portable computers
The two-chip CL-MD9624 intelligent data/fax/voice modem device set is
capable of transmitting and receiving data at up to 2,400 bits/s and fax
information at up to 9,600 bits/s. The chipset incorporates a serial or
parallel interface, 16550A register-compatible UART, and internal
controller functions, as well as on-chip communications firmware and
sigma-delta technology. An evaluation board for testing the CL-MD9624
accommodates the two standard configurations of the product: the
CL-MD9624AT two-chip set and the CL-MD9624EC three-chip solution, which
includes a V.42/MNP protocol chip. The CL-MD9624's digital signal
processor and front end are packaged in a 100-pin QFP and 28-pin PLCC,
respectively. The V.42/MNP chip comes in a 44-pin PLCC. (The two- and
