Modular optical encoders are low cost
The MOD5500 and MOD5600 Series enclosed optical encoders use a monolithic
optoelectronic IC that incorporates all sensor, amplifier, and comparator
circuits on one chip inside the module. The minimum parts count helps to
improve the MTBF. Operating on 5 Vdc, the encoders offer configurations
with resolutions up to 512 PPR. Output is provided on three channels–two
channels in quadrature for position and direction feedback, and an
optional index channel for a once-per-revolution pulse. Optional 26LS31
and 26LS31M equivalent line-driver outputs are also available. A locking
connector eliminates connection failure due to jitter. (Under $20 ea/large
