Modules turn thermocouples into wireless network nodes
Compact, inexpensive device transforms deployment of wireless temperature-monitoring networks into a simple plug-and-play operation
UWTS series compact wireless thermocouple connectors are standalone battery-powered modules into which users can plug type J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N, or C thermocouples. The modules then transmit linearized cold-junction-compensated measurements back to a USB-powered receiver connected to a PC, thus letting users create a wireless temperature-monitoring network with a simple plug-and-play setup.
Each of two types of wireless connector/transmitter unitsthe standard range (200 ft outdoor/65 ft indoor) UWTC-1 and the long range (500 ft/145 ft) UWTC-2can be programmed in the field to work with a particular type of thermocouple. The module’s universal input accepts both standard and miniature mating connectors.
The connector can transmit data at user-selectable time intervals from 5 s to 1 min. Up to 12 wireless connectors can be used with a single UWTC-REC1 receiver, and the included software lets a PC act as a 12-channel meter, strip chart recorder and data logger, with readings that can be saved and exported to a spreadsheet. (Transmitters, from $125; receivers, from $225available now.)
