MOSFET, sense resistor suit hot-swap apps

The LTC4217 2-A integrated hot-swap controller helps protect low-power boards with supply voltages ranging from 2.9 to 26.5 V. The device integrates a power MOSFET and sense resistor to limit inrush current and reduce the number of external components required. The controller suits RAID, server, telecom, and industrial applications.

An internal dV/dT circuit negates the need for an external gate capacitor. Load current is monitored by using the voltage sensed across the internal 7.5-mΩ sense resistor and adjusting the internal 25-mΩ MOSFET gate-to-source voltage. The device also features current, temperature, and fault outputs, as well as overvoltage and undervoltage protection. It’s available in a 16-pin 5 x 3-mm QFN package or a 20-lead TSSOP.
