January 20, 2014 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., a leading engineering resource and global distributor of semiconductors and electronic components, as well as its employees, believe that giving is not simply a seasonal endeavor. As we welcome 2014, Mouser employees look forward to another year full of opportunities for giving back to the community.
For Mouser’s 1,300-plus employees around the world, giving is an ongoing event as they consistently share their resources, their time and their expertise with charities, schools, community service projects and other civic improvement programs. Mouser’s ongoing philanthropy was formally recognized in 2012 when it was named the 2012 Employer of Excellence for Tarrant County. The City of Mansfield proclamation specifically cited Mouser as “one of our most philanthropic corporate citizens.” The Texas State Senate recognized Mouser with a proclamation for its “many outstanding contributions to the community.” Mansfield is home to Mouser’s worldwide headquarters.
During the recent holiday season alone, Mouser employees gave the gift of life by donating units of blood, benefiting more than 220 patients. In an ongoing partnership with the Mansfield Police Department, Mouser employees participated in drives that collected 32 large boxed crates of food to give to area families in need and also collected hundreds of toys for local children. They also gave 16 large boxed crates of items to help those at the Mansfield Nursing and Rehab Center. And for the Mansfield Activities Center, Mouser underwrote the cost to provide Wi-Fi for 2013, and will continue in 2014.
“Our employees embrace charities in many generous ways,” said Paula Holcomb, Mouser Electronics’ Vice President of Human Resources. “They are working every day to make a difference in our communities by giving of their resources as well as their time.”
Mouser is deeply committed to fostering education, particularly in STEM-related education, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering & Math. In addition to speaking to classes and serving on school advisory boards in Mansfield, Mouser staff members this past year offered their expertise to the area high school robotics team and helped students build a solar car. Mouser also was a key sponsor of the 2013 FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) national championship in St. Louis, along with the FRC Dallas Regional Competition in Irving, TX. In partnership with the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), Mouser donated thousands of semiconductors and electronic components for the 2013 FIRST FRC Kits.
The distributor received the Top Award for Community Activism – Social or Educational Cause, from the ECIA at the ECIA's annual executive conference Oct. 27-29 in Chicago. Just last month Mouser announced its sponsorship of a technology grant to support science and technology education in Mansfield Schools, a large district with over 30,000 students. The grant, given through the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation, will be used to expand the robotics program at Mary Orr Intermediate School.
