February 13, 2013 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, yesterday in partnership with Design News, formally honored Punya Prakash, an engineer with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), as winner of its Rising Engineering Star Award.
Recently promoted from the applications engineering team, Prakash is an end-equipment manager leading the Sitara™ ARM® Processors team's extensive smart home solutions initiative with TI where she is innovating automation. Her hard work and proven track record as a leader made her a standout as a top rising engineering star. Prakash was chosen from among a myriad of engineering standouts.
“It was no easy task for our content team and advisory board to choose the top innovator,” said Rich Nass, Brand Director for Design News, “but after sorting through all of the nominations there was one person who stood out – Punya Prakash.”
“At Mouser, we're fortunate to work with some of the industry's brightest minds. Rising stars designing not only what's new, but truly 'what's next,'” said Larry Johannes, Mouser Vice President of Brand Marketing. “It's these engineers that will usher in a new generation of products that are smarter, faster and much more efficient, moving the newest technologies forward at a pace never seen before. It's these engineers that will design the future for all of us.”
The Rising Stars program is the latest cooperative effort between Mouser and Design News, a division of UBM that serves the information needs of design engineers globally. Johannes presented the award to Mrs. Prakash on Feb. 12th at the Design News Rising Engineering Star ceremony in Anaheim, Calif.
“Punya Prakash is not only a leader and a hard worker, but the fact that people turn to her for technical advice is a biggie: peer respect. She's active in community programs and looks like the fastest moving comet in this bunch,” said Design News senior technical editor Ann Thryft.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by industry leaders like Mouser and Design News from such an impressive list of nominees,” Prakash said. “This is very encouraging to those of us trying to make a difference.”
“I love what I do – it's as simple as that,” she told a TI publication. “You're talking to people, you're solving issues, you sleep at night and wake up with a great idea. When you love what you're doing, that in itself is motivating.”
She also credited her co-workers. “You can come up with a ton of great ideas, but to execute, you need to have a great team to work with, and we have a great one who works well together,” said Prakash, a native of Bangalore, India. TI reported that after receiving her undergrad degree from India's Visveswaraiah Technological University, Prakash started working for a software engineering firm and soon realized her passion for embedded analytics and technology that enables systems to analyze information and make intelligent decisions. She enrolled at the University of Texas at El Paso to earn her master's degree, where her research on TI's Beagle-Board was funded by the Texas Instruments Foundation (TIF).
Within the three years that Prakash has been with TI, she has scored many achievements and gained the respect of her colleagues. She stands out in a large corporation where the talent pool is swimming with top-notch engineers.
Chris J. Loberg, senior field technical marketing manager with Tektronix and a member of Design News' advisory board, noted: “Punya Prakash has an impressive track record at a large corporation that already is loaded with engineering talent. Punya is achieving in that competitive environment around all of that talent. She has had to be on her game with even more pressure than perhaps someone in a smaller corporate environment. Very Impressive.”
