Mouser Sponsors SAE International Anti-Counterfeit Parts Symposium

Mouser Quality Expert Chuck Amsden to Speak on Mitigating Counterfeits

December 2, 2013 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., a leading design engineering resource and global distributor of semiconductors and electronic components, today announced its sponsorship and participation in a major symposium dealing with the problems of counterfeit electronic parts.

Mouser is partnering with TTI and Sager Electronics to sponsor the SAE Counterfeit Parts Avoidance Symposium – South, set for December 10 at the Doubletree DFW Airport North in Irving, Texas. The one-day event presented by SAE International will address the increasing challenges facing aerospace and defense manufacturers created by counterfeit parts entering the supply chain.

The symposium will provide an open technical forum for procurements professionals, including quality control/assurance professionals, supply chain managers, component engineers, and product support professionals, to identify methods to lower their organization’s risk to counterfeit parts, especially in the obsolescence process.

A series of panel discussions is scheduled with leaders within the industry, government and military.

Chuck Amsden, Mouser’s Director of Quality, will be one of the symposium’s featured speakers. Amsden will speak at 10 a.m. on Mitigating Counterfeit in the Authorized Supply Chain with AS6496, which is the latest SAE International standard in development for dealing with counterfeit electronics in authorized distribution.

“In my presentation, I will walk through the current draft, and point out many of the major details that differentiate AS6496 from previous standards,” Amsden said. “Upon completion, this standard will define the requirements for distributors operating in the authorized supply chain for mitigating counterfeits.”

In the exhibition area, Mouser representatives will be in Booth 3 to answer questions about the quality measures and practices. As an AS9100C authorized distributor, Mouser’s sponsorship of this SAE International event underscores the company’s dedication to supporting the fight against counterfeit products.

“Mouser is strongly committed to ensuring every customer receives only authorized, genuine components,” said Pete Shopp, Mouser Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “Mouser firmly supports SAE International's commitment to identify and avoid counterfeit parts throughout the industry.”

Mouser is a contributing member on the SAE G-19 committee that wrote AS5553, the first SAE International standard created to mitigate counterfeit electronics, and again contributed to follow-up standards now progressing to AS6496. The AS9100C certification requires rigorous purchasing, handling, storage, and traceability controls to prevent counterfeit and non-conforming electronic components from entering the supply chain. Mouser carries dual registration to AS9100C and ISO 9001:2008 and is an ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association) and CEDA (China Electronics Distributor Alliance) authorized distributor.
