December 18, 2013 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., a leading engineering resource and global distributor of semiconductors and electronic components, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a robotics grant to support science and technology education in Mansfield Schools. The new grant, given through the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation, will be used to expand the robotics program at Mary Orr Intermediate School.
Linda Bacsik, Executive Director of the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation, said the school district of more than 32,000 students constantly strives to provide educational opportunities for all students through innovative and inspiring teaching methods.
“Bringing math and science to life into the classroom through robotics is a powerful thing,” Bacsik said. “The students are eager to come to class to work with robotics. We want to build on that eagerness and challenge them to extend their learning and thinking as they prepare for the future.”

Seven teachers will be able to participate in the newly expanded robotics program, including Donna Sibila, Terry Groseclose, Monica Abrams, Michelle Windsor, Coy Baldwin, Amy Cockrum and Blake Bowman. The grant will allow more students to participate in the school’s robotics program, exposing them to the principles of engineering. The grant will make it possible for the district to buy the Simple and Motorized Mechanisms base sets and the related Advancing with Simple and Motorized Mechanism Activity packs. Along with these base sets, the money will go toward EV3 Robotic sets, and site licenses for the software and EV3 Design and Engineering Projects.

The distributor is a supporter of the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) FTC robotics team at Ben Barber Tech Academy. This year, Mouser also supported students at Ben Barber in building a solar car for the Solar Car Challenge, a week-long race that began in Fort Worth and ended July 30 in Los Angeles. For their efforts, the team received the State Energy Conservation Award from the State of Texas, as well as a special proclamation from the Texas State Senate. This was the second-straight year that Mouser supported the solar car team. In 2012, the company sponsored a NASA uplink for local MISD students to speak directly to astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
