Back in 1973, when music came on eight-track tapes and TV viewing was limited to a handful of networks, Glenn Smith, a college student, began his part-time job at the warehouse of an electronics catalog start-up in San Diego, Calif. It didn't take long before his foresight and leadership qualities had him stand out among the group of just 12 employees.
From there, Smith took on various positions at Mouser, including technical sales, catalog production and purchasing, and in 1980, he became the Director of Marketing and Logistics, which led him to become the Vice President of Marketing and Information Technology three years later. He was then promoted to Senior VP and General Manager in 1985 before becoming the company president in 1988. Smith successfully led Mouser through the acquisition by TTI in 2000, until being named President and CEO of TTI/Mouser in 2004, where he still proudly stands today.

Yesterday, Mouser announced Smith's impressive 40th anniversary with the company. TTI Chairman, Paul Andrews, presented Smith his 40-year service certificate.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank all of the Mouser employees who have been part of this company throughout the years,” Smith said. “Each of you plays an important role. There was a time when I could ship all the orders by myself. Then and now, it takes every employee and every job to make this company work. I would not be standing here today, celebrating 40 years, without all of you.”
Smith's dedication to the electronics component industry led him to receive the 2011 Distinguished Service Award from the Electronic Components Industry Association. Under Smith's leadership, Mouser received an Employer Excellence Award from the Texas Workforce Commission and Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County in 2012 for the company's economic and community impact on the North Texas area.
With his strategic vision, Smith has built Mouser into the global corporation it is today. The company currently has 1,200 employees, 400,000 customers, over $600 million annual revenue, and 19 offices on three continents.
“When I look back to what we were then and what we are now, I can't help but feel a great sense of satisfaction…and we aren't finished yet,” Smith said.
