MSO and DPO scopes give professional performance at amateur prices
Fast digitizing and capture rates, deep memory, and built-in tools let entry-level users tackle real-world problems
To address the need to test and troubleshoot current embedded systems with complex serial communications, the portable MSO2000 series mixed-signal and DPO2000 series digital-phosphor oscilloscopes come with features such as intelligent waveform search and navigation tools, automatic decoding of serial data busses, and variable low-pass filters to reduce unwanted noise from signals. Priced starting at $2,580, the units are said to offer the most integrated serial data triggering, protocol decoding, and analysis capabilities available of any entry-level oscilloscope.
The units have bandwidths of 100 or 200 MHz and are available with 2 or 4 channels. Sampling rate on each channel is 1 Gsample/s, and all units can capture 5,000 waveforms/s and store them in a 1-Mpoint/channel memory. Further, mixed-signal units can time-correlate signals on up to 4 analog and 16 digital channels.
The units offer serial triggering, protocol decode, USB plug-and-play PC connectivity, a 7-in. widescreen TFT display, and a three-year warranty. Built-in FilterVu variable low-pass filters let users block unwanted noise while still capturing glitches and other signal details up to the scope’s full bandwidth, while the Wave Inspector search engine makes it simple and efficient to find and mark events of interest in long records. (From $2,580 to $5,150 — available now.)
