Presented as a general-lighting breakthrough, the XLamp MPL EasyWhite 24-chip LED can typically deliver 1,200 lumens at 250 mA, producing consistent color at an efficacy of 60 lm/W. It can give a light output equivalent to a 3,000K, 75-W equivalent BR-30 incandescent bulb while consuming 78% less energy, thus meeting the efficacy / output requirements of the U.S. Energy Star program.
Optimized for directional lighting applications and able to produce up to 1,500 lm, the 125°-viewing angle LED is offered in 2,700K, 3,000K, 3,500K, and 4,000K color temperatures that are in the center of the respective ANSI C78.377-2008 color bins a color space that is 75% smaller than the total area of the corresponding ANSI bin. Thus LEDs can be specified like traditional light sources by indicating desired color temperature and brightness — thereby shortening the design/manufacturing cycle, reducing component count, and eliminating complex color-mixing recipes, while improving color consistency and reducing pixelation.
The device comes in a 12 x 13-mm-footprint package that is 72% smaller than the nearest-competing LED component. Uniquely, the back of the device is a thermal pad that can be directly attached to a heat sink to maximize cooling. Six pads allow the device to be attached to 24-W dc power in parallel; alternatively, the pads can be connected in series and the device powered from a 75-W source. (Device costs less than 24 individual LED die; contact company for pricing available now.)
